We claim the right to be consulted
In Guatemala Alboan helps indigenous people and peasant communities who depend on territory and natural resources to keep their traditional way of live and even their cosmovision. Some of those peoples and communities are threaten by big projects with high economical, social and ecological consequences as they are hydropower dams, extractive industries or even agro industry. Situation gets harder as there also appear narcotraficant groups and militarization of the region rises up.
At Alboan we want to expose any violence act, rising militarization and criminalization of social protests that are appearing in the region affected by commented practices, as it is the case of municipio de Santa Cruz Barillas, Huehuetenango. We reject project imposition through violent actions and claim the right to be consulted and free approval as stated by the Declaration of Indigenous people and Agreement 169 of ILO (International Labor Organization).
