ALBOAN
Myanmar after Cyclone Nargis
Restoration continues in Myanmar after Cyclone Nargis
ALBOAN has contributed with 48.942,92 € in reconstruction activities in the country
Last May one of the worst natural disasters, alongside the earthquake in China and the Tsunami in Indonesia, took place. 150.000 people died and two million three hundred thousand were affected in one way or another.
Although ALBOAN does not work directly in that country, Jesuits present in the area made their request for help and we decided to support them. The three Jesuit communities present in the country have been dedicating all their efforts to assist the victims both in Rangoon and in the affected areas of the delta in the most effective way possible.
Work began with emergency aid (clothes, blankets, medication and shelter) followed by house reconstruction and aid towards the return of children to schools in the next phase (reconstruction of schools etc). Regeneration of the lives of the community is slowly taking place, however this phase is still at the very beginning. In total, 50.000 affected people are receiving aid.
Report: Cyclone Nargis Emergency and Recovery Response.
