Special Report on the “False Positives” in Colombia
The Centre for Research and Popular Education (CINEP, Centro de Investigación y Educación Popular) of Colombia offers a special report on the social problems since the “false positives” (the term used to describe the killing of civilians who were made to pass for guerrilla fighters killed in combat) to the measures established by the Colombian government and the state of social intolerance which is now experienced in the South American country.
According to this organisation cases of “extra-judicial executions” continue. In fact, in 2010 there was evidence for “a worrying increase of 58.3% in these cases and an increase of 69.5% in victims compared to the cases reported in 2009”.
CINEP, therefore recommends “to complement the measures adopted by the government in 2008 in order to guarantee more control over these types of offences committed by the members of the Public Forces, and hence, offer effective guarantees to avoid repetition of these actions.
The number of cases and victims registered by the Political Violenceand Human Rights Databaseof CINEP between 2001 and 2010 amounts to 562 cases and 1119 victims.
