The 17 development NGO Coordination groups of the Spanish autonomous regions and the state Development NGO Coordinator met on Monday in Valencia to demand that the political parties “follow through with their commitments in the field of international development, as well as to support the Valencia Coordinator who is the spokesperson and representative of the civil society on these issues”. ALBOAN has taken part in this forum which has served as a platform to “claim the social victories that have been achieved in recent decades, thanks to the work of organised civil society, as well as to denounce the fact that international development budgets and programmes have been questioned.”
During this event, the Development NGO´s brought forward the challenges and future prospects of international development in the present context as well as accusing international organizations and national and local governments of taking advantage of the world crisis in order to reduce or rule out funds dedicated to poverty eradication. The reporter Rosa María Calaf, who conducted the central act, called on the public to maintain their firm commitments with Development NGO´s as a gesture of solidarity and civil activism.
This mass event, took place before the act that will be held simultaneously on the 5th of May in all the autonomous regions under the slogan “Chose people first, the crisis is no excuse”, in order to urge the political parties to assign 0.7% of their budgets towards development aid and public education in their party programmes.
